Last week I attended to the DevDays Suisse Romande 2004.
The first day was devoted to .NET stuffs :
Migration from VB6 to VB.NET,
Migration from Java, PHP to ASP.NET,
Interoperability between J2EE and .NET,
Infopath.
This last presentation from Sasha Corti (MS Switzerland) http://www.corti.com was impressive.
The second day of these DevDays was about Longhorn and started by a key note from David Chappell. Very big guy !
All blocks of the future release of Windows were described :
WinFS aka Windows File System, using a little Yukon to store files. The key point here is : People spend most of his time to search file or information. So, MS as solved this issue by storing _items_ in an indexed database. Then, you just store items like contacts, stream, etc.
Indigo : the new communication platform
Avalon : the new user interface engine with a new language, XAML, and a merge between Windows forms and Web forms namespace.
Whidbey : The next release of the .NET framework and development tool.
Shortly, it was two great days.
